A man is believed to have stolen $5000 worth of frozen food from a butcher after an unsuccessful ram raid at a general store in Melbourne‘s south east.
The man broke into a cold storage room at the back of the butcher on High Street in Berwick about 2am.
“The man stole a number of boxes containing meat before fleeing the scene in a white Toyota Hilux utility ute,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
Police believe he first unsuccessfully tried to reverse a Toyota ute into a general store on Beaconsfield-Emerald Road in Beaconsfield Upper about half an hour before the butcher robbery.
Officers said he attached a chain to the vehicle to force the doors open and went inside the store but left empty handed.
