Officers are calling for help to find the two men behind the shocking assault on April 7, releasing CCTV of the men involved.
The 22-year-old victim was allegedly walking along Nicholson Street in Fitzroy from the city about 11.50pm when he was approached by the two strangers.
“Officers believe that after a short conversation, one of the men produced a large kitchen knife and in an unprovoked attack slashed the victim across the face,” a police spokesperson has said.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The men behind the attack can be heard speaking to eachother on the CCTV footage released, leading police to be believe one is called ‘”Jayden”.

One of them is approximately 180cm tall with dark coloured hair and a fringe.
He was unshaven and described to police as having “peach fuzz” around the cheeks and above his lip.
He was wearing a dark hooded jumper, dark coloured pants, red shoes and was carrying a dark-coloured bag.
The second man is believed to be Caucasian in appearance and was wearing a grey hooded jumper, a dark coloured cap, grey tracksuit pants, dark Nike shoes and was carrying a black backpack.
