The 52-year-old man was shot at an address on Bel Air Avenue in Kirwan about 4.55pm yesterday after police were called to reports a man had threatened self-harm.

It’s believed the man was shot after he “advanced at” police officers.

The man was given immediate first aid and CPR but died at the scene.

Police are investigating the incident and are due to comment on it later this morning.

The Ethical Standards Command will investigate the shooting on behalf of the State Coroner, while the investigation will be subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

There have now been six fatal police shootings across Queensland since October.
