A 39-year-old man has been shot dead by police at a motel in regional Queensland.
Police were called to Greenhill Road in Ilbilbie, south of Mackay, just after 11am today, where they located a man with a firearm.
The man allegedly threatened officers and was subsequently shot, said police.
District officer for Mackay Superintendent Graeme Paine said police were conducting a “targetted operation” and that the man was wanted on several other matters.
“During the arrest process…it’ll be alleged the male produced a firearm,” he said.
“Officers have subsequently discharged their firearms…police immediately undertook and provided medical assistance and unfortunately he has passed away as a result of his injuries.”
This shooting is under investigation by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner, which will be subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
Police investigations are continuing.
