A man has been rescued from his backyard after his Adelaide home was engulfed by a fierce house fire that also threatened neighbouring properties.
The blaze, which originated in a front bedroom of the Valley View home, quickly spread throughout the house, causing significant damage estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
A delivery person raised the alarm at about 3:20am, knocking on neighbours’ doors and urging them to evacuate.
Residents scrambled to move their cars away from the inferno, and hosed down their own properties.
“I was a bit shocked, I thought my house was also going to get fire, but they don’t allow me to get in,” neighbour Manjeet Singh said.
The rescued resident was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the fire.
