An elderly man has been placed in an induced coma after being pulled from the water at one of Sydney’s most popular swimming spots.

The man, aged in his 80s, is understood to have suffered a medical episode while swimming at Clovelly Beach, in the city’s east, just before midday on Monday.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition.

It’s understood he was placed in an induced coma as he continues to fight for life.
