An alleged intruder is in a Western Australian hospital after being shot in the leg during an alleged break-in gone wrong.

A man aged in his 50s shot the 27-year-old man who allegedly broke into his Stake Hill home in Mandurah, south of Perthwith a rifle.

He was naked and hiding in a bedroom wardrobe at the Evergreen Loop property around 3am.

The alleged intruder ran from the house but was tracked down by the WA Police canine squad.

He was found with a gun shot wound to his leg and rushed to Royal Perth Hospital.

It’s understood children were inside during the ordeal.

Detectives and forensics officers spent hours at the home today, seizing a gun.

Police said the home owners were complying with the ongoing investigation.

The alleged intruder is in a stable condition and has been charged with a string of offences.
