Police were called to a home on Morrow Road in O’Sullivan Beach about 5.30pm on Friday afternoon, after reports of a man pouring “accelerant” on the property.
Police said the man living inside came out to confront the other man.
The alleged offender jumped into a car and drove towards the homeowner, pinning him between the vehicle and a trailer.
The driver allegedly got out of the car and ran away from the scene, down Morrow Road.
Firefighters were called in with heavy duty equipment to help free the homeowner before the injured 61-year-old was treated by paramedics at the scene.
Police are still searching for the man described as being in his 30’s with an athletic build and wavy black hair.
Police were seen combing the area for finger prints, trying to piece together the scene, which left locals in shock.
Nearby workers told 9News that the victim has lived in his home for around 10 years and is well liked in the community.
“He is a nice guy and to have this happen so close to Christmas is a travesty,” local, Paul Brown, said.
Police say the two men are known to each other, and would like to hear from anyone with information or CCTV.
