A 61-year-old man is fighting for life in hospital after he was allegedly attacked by intruders at his home in Adelaide’s north early this morning.

Emergency services were called to a home on James Street in Gilberton about 4.20am today over reports of a break in.

They found the man with life-threatening injuries.

He was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he currently remains in critical condition.

A 30-year-old man, who was the other occupant in the home, was not injured.

The alleged attackers had fled the scene by the time authorities arrived.

Police officers and the major crime unit are investigating the matter.
