A popular LGBTIQA+ pub in Queensland has kicked out a man who was wearing a cap in support of Donald Trump.

Rob Holt says he was “confused” and “embarrassed” when staff at the Wickham in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley approached him and asked him to leave.

Holt claimed he was at the famous gay bar with his wife and daughter for a Halloween event.

“[The staff member] said some people in here don’t feel safe and are a bit worried with you wearing that in here,” Hold said.

Holt claimed he had spent several hours at the pub with no issues.

“Especially my six-year-old daughter, I didn’t want her to see her father being kicked out of an establishment for what I deem to be no reason,” he said.

“If they were upset by it, I could have just easily removed it rather than being told to leave.”

The Wickham has been a well-known LGBTQIA+ venue for decades and Holt said he understood why some people would be offended by his cap.

“I hope I’ve not offended anybody,” he said.

“I’ve just got a hat on, I’m not being aggressive or anything like that.

“I was just here for a day with my family.”
