A man whose legs were crushed during a workplace accident in Queensland has died in hospital.

Paramedics were called to a private property in Owanyilla on the Fraser Coast, about 250km north of Brisbane, at 3.20pm yesterday to an accident involving an excavator.

The man, aged 55, had life-threatening leg injuries and was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital by helicopter.

He has since died in hospital.
