A man has died after falling from an e-scooter in Sydney's south-west overnight.

Police believe the 44-year-old man was riding the scooter along Ingleton Circuit at Wilton about 10.55pm when it clipped the gutter.

The man, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown to the ground and suffered a serious head injury.

Police said friends and family conducted CPR until paramedics arrived and took him to Campbelltown Hospital in a critical condition.

The man died this morning. 

An investigation is now underway into the circumstances of the crash and police will prepare a report for the coroner.
