No passengers were aboard the bus when it collided with the car at an intersection on Burwood Highway and Mount Dandenong Tourist Road at Upper Ferntree Gully around 8:40pm yesterday.
“The driver of the car, who is yet to be formally identified, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“The driver of the bus was not injured,” police said.
Investigations are ongoing.
