A man has died following a two-day siege with a woman videoing the tense standoff with police from the house.

Police gained entry to the Bowenfels property in western NSW on Monday morning at around 9am where they found the body of a man.

He reportedly died from a gunshot wound, which is thought to have been self-inflicted.

The man, who has not yet been formally identified, is thought to be aged 29.

Police officers had surrounded the property on Cooerwull Road near Lithgow since around midday on Sunday.

Local streets were closed after reports of shots being fired and people were told to avoid the area.

On Sunday night a woman posted a video to social media claiming to be inside the house.
