A man has been charged with murder over the death of a baby boy in Melbourne’s west last month.

Paramedics were called to reports of an unresponsive child at a Werribee home around 4am on January 19.

The boy was taken to hospital, where he was assessed as having “significant assault-related injuries”, according to police.

The boy passed away in hospital the following morning.

A 29-year-old Hillside man, who police have said was known to the child but was not his biological father, has today been charged with murder and child homicide.

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.
