Emergency services were called to a home on Ballanda Crescent about 4.30pm yesterday.

Police said an intruder forced his way into the home and allegedly attacked the resident with a knife.

Paramedics tried to revive the 58-year-old victim, but he died at the scene.

NSW Police Acting Inspector Aaron van Schaik said police are yet to confirm if the victim and alleged killer knew each other.

“Police have spoken to a lot of witnesses yesterday,” van Schaik said.

“Inquiries are ongoing to identify if they were known to each other.”

The alleged attacker fled but police found him driving a 4WD along the Pacific Highway soon after.

Police pursued him for almost 40 minutes when he didn’t stop.

The chase, which spanned over 50km/h as far as Woodburn, ended after police used road spikes.

The 41-year-old man was arrested and taken to Lismore Police Station where he was charged with murder, predatory driving and drive dangerously in police pursuit.
