A North Queensland family was passing through the Gympie area on their way home on Friday night and stopped to rest at the Chatsworth Park on Gympie Curra Road.

The next morning, the boy’s mother had pulled him from a lake and emergency services were called to the scene.

The baby was taken to hospital and was declared dead later that same night.

Today, police arrested a 42-year-old man known to the child in Bundamba.

He was charged with manslaughter (domestic violence) and will face Ipswich Magistrates Court tomorrow.
