A man has been charged with murder in Queensland after a woman’s death while kayaking in 2020.

The 54-year-old woman was known to the man, and they were kayaking together on Lake Samsonvale near Forgan Cove in Joyner, City of Moreton Bay, on November 27 that year.

When she was brought to the shore, witnesses and emergency services performed CPR but she was declared dead at the scene.

Police said this morning that while her death initially appeared to be non-suspicious, detectives reversed that position after protracted coronial investigations.

Police arrested a 55-year-old man yesterday when he was visiting Brisbane from his current home in Thailand.

It’s alleged the man was involved in the woman’s death.

He has been charged with one count each of domestic violence murder, fraud, and attempted fraud.

He was refused police bail and will appear in court today.
