A spectator at a rugby league football match in Hammondville on Sunday allegedly confronted a player at the end of the game, NSW Police said.
9News understands it occurred at an A reserve grade match between Chester Hill and Cabramatta.
The men allegedly had an argument before the 19-year-old threatened the player with a knife.
“Other spectators and players intervened and assisted before the man fled the scene,” police said.

Police went to the oval and arrested a 19-year-old man nearby.
He has been charged with affray, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and wielding a knife in public.
The man was refused bail at Liverpool Local Court today and will appear again on August 21.
