A Toyota Kluger was driving on Rural Street in Park Ridge at about 9.30pm on Sunday when it allegedly mowed down a pedestrian.
It then allegedly crashed into a garage and hit another car inside, sparking a fire.
Both cars were alight as the driver allegedly fled the scene before emergency services could arrive.
The 28-year-old pedestrian was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
“I heard someone was screaming for help,” one said.
“We run to the front door, there’s a woman screaming for help and a guy obviously wailing in pain,” another said.
“It’s almost like it’s not real, it’s not happening, and you can’t really grasp the concept that you’ve seen what you’ve just seen.”
Police believe the driver and pedestrian are known to each other.
Investigations led officers to a home in Kingston last night, where they took a 38-year-old man from Logan into custody.
He was today charged with four counts of arson, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count each of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, possessing a controlled substance, and possessing a utensil.
He was refused bail to appear before Beenleigh Magistrates Court today.
