A man has been arrested over the alleged one-punch attack on NBL player Harry Froling in the New South Wales Illawarra region.

Froling allegedly left Fever Nightclub on Crown Street in Wollongong, a popular nightlife district, around 2am on Sunday.

The 24-year-old was then allegedly punched by a man who was then seen walking off with a group of women.

“I called the security guards to come and they called the police and ambulance,” a witness said.

Froling was taken to Wollongong Hospital after hitting his head on the pavement.

Hours earlier, Froling had faced off against his brother during the Brisbane Bullets’ win over the Illawarra Hawks.

He allegedly refused a CT scan before he self-discharged and travelled back to Brisbane with his teammates.

Shortly after landing in Brisbane, he presented to Prince Charles Hospital where he was rushed into surgery, after suffering a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.

A 19-year-old man was arrested after attending Wollongong Police Station about 3.20pm today.

Froling’s NBL team the Brisbane Bullets said they are working with police and the NBL Integrity Unit to investigate the circumstances of the alleged assault.

“Harry is currently recovering from an incident that occurred following the team’s away game in Wollongong and will miss the remainder of the NBL23 season,” the club said.

“As an investigation is underway, the club is not in a position to make any further comment, other than to say the players, coaches and staff all send their well wishes to Harry and his family.”
