A man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing another man to death in a fight on the NSW South Coast.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Moss Street and Brereton Street in Nowra about 5.45pm yesterday.

Police alleged the two men, who knew each other, were involved in an altercation before one of the men was stabbed in the torso. 

Paramedics arrived at the scene and treated the injured man, who is believed to have been in his 20s, but he died.

A short time later, a 47-year-old man was arrested at Nowra Police Station. 

A crime scene has been declared and is awaiting forensic examination. An investigation is under way into the man’s death.
