A man has been arrested after the fatal stabbing of a “well-liked” rugby league player in Marrickville.

Emergency services were called to Marrickville Road in Sydney’s Inner West about 7.40pm on Monday after reports that a man had been attacked.

Sitaleki Filihiahekava, 32, was found injured and later died at the scene, outside a Guzman y Gomez fast food restaurant.

Police said a man who they believed could be involved was seen running down Silver Street shortly after the attack.

Filihiahekava’s family had been eating at a restaurant when the attack happened.

A 31-year-old man was arrested about 5.40pm in Concord today.

No charges have yet been laid.
