The chaos begun in the early hours of this morning when a car towing a caravan crashed and sliced in half on Marion Road in the city’s south-west.
The alleged driver, a homeless 52-year-old man, fled the scene and sought refuge on the roof of a nearby home.
He then allegedly flung tiles onto neighbouring houses.
Startled residents awoke to the commotion on their roofs, but it was not Santa dropping off gifts.
“I could hear someone was stomping so heavily,” resident Pankj Verma told 9News.
“Someone was on the roof smashing tiles.

“It would have been nice if it was Santa coming down from the chimney but unfortunately that wasn’t how it was supposed to go.”
Vision from inside a home showed debris raining down from the ceiling, while the flung tiles smashed into a car and shattered glass.
Police rushed to the scene and negotiated with the 52-year-old man, eventually coaxing him down from the roof.
He was then wrestled to the ground by officers and taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The man has since been charged with aggravated driving without due care, unlawfully being on a premises and property damage.
