A man has allegedly been assaulted during a house fire in Sydney’s southwest.

Police were called to a house fire on Perisher Circuit in Minto at 11pm Friday, after reports of a house fire.

The front loungeroom was allegedly set alight by an unknown number of people, police said.

A 59-year-old resident of the home was allegedly hit with a metal pole while opening the front door when he went to see what was going on.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance at the scene, before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

Fire and Rescue NSW was able to extinguish the fire, however, the front lounge room was damaged.

Two other people were home at the time, they were not injured.

Police and fire authorities are investigating.
