Police have charged a 25-year-old man after a woman was struck by her own car in south-east Melbourne.

The 66-year-old woman was with her husband in the carpark of Casey Hospital in Berwick about 11.20am yesterday when the man allegedly jumped into her Ford Territory and drove into her when she tried to stop him.

The woman was taken to another hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police later arrested the man in the coastal town of Pioneer Bay, about 100km south-east of Melbourne.

The woman’s car was recovered nearby.

The man, of no fixed address, has been charged with multiple offences including motor vehicle theft and dangerous driving causing serious injury.

He is scheduled to appear in court today.
