A 13-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a Coles worker.
The teenager was charged after the alleged attack on the 63-year-old woman inside the supermarket in Ipswich, western Brisbane, at 5.22pm on Monday.
Queensland Police allege the boy approached the employee and stabbed her in the back with a knife, leaving her with life-threatening injuries.
He fled the scene before he could be detained by officers but was tackled and detained by a member of the public and later arrested.
He is due to appear before Ipswich Childrens Court on Tuesday.
Police and paramedics were called to Yamanto Central in Ipswich following reports of the incident.
The 63-year-old woman was treated at the scene then rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition, where she remains on Tuesday.
Shocked shoppers were evacuated from the centre as police cordoned off the busy supermarket and established a large crime scene.

The 13-year-old boy spent Monday night being interviewed by police before he was later charged.
A witness recounted the moment shoppers chased the boy through the centre following the alleged stabbing.
‘The next thing he was sprinting, there was like 15 people chasing after him and he was walked out in cuffs and everything… I was just shocked because he was so little,’ they told 9News on Monday.
Forensic officers were seen inside Coles taking photographs and scouring the crime scene.
