A major freeway in Perth’s southern suburbs has re-opened after emergency services gained the upper hand on a bushfire in the area.
Earlier the Kwinana Freeway was closed in both directions and traffic was banked up for kilometres after a fire started near Rowley Road in Aubin Grove.
An emergency warning has been downgraded but residents have been warned there is still a possible threat to lives and homes.
A watch and act warning remains in place for people in an area bound by Botany Park, Kwinana Freeway, Rowley Road, Frankland Park and Canary Drive in parts of Aubin Grove, Hammond Park and Wattleup in the City of Cockburn.
Meanwhile, authorities have issued a watch and act warning for parts of Mariginiup in the city of Wanneroo.
The warning is in place for people in an area bound by Boundary Road, Silver Road, Meadowlands Road and Krake Road in Mariginiup.

According to Emergency WA, the fire started near the intersection of Boundary Road and Bustard Road.
Several bushfire advice warnings are in place for other parts of the state.
The fire comes as a severe heatwave is affecting the state’s central west, lower west and south-west areas, including the Perth metropolitan area.
The Bureau of Meteorology said the heatwave is expected to impact these areas over the next three days.
”Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and prepare now for the heat,” Emergency WA said.
