A homicide investigation has been launched after a baby was tragically found dead inside a home.
Emergency services were called an address Campion Avenue in Balcatta, Perth, about 3.14am on Monday.
The boy’s 13-year-old sister found the dead six-month-old boy and called triple-0.
A woman also in the house, believed to be the infants’ mother, was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital under priority conditions for a mental health assessment.
Police, homicide detectives and forensics officers remained at the scene Monday afternoon as the street remained in lockdown.
Someone living in a neighbouring property said the person who lived in the house was a young mother with two children.
‘She is a really kind, sweet person that loved her kids,’ the man told The West.
‘I know she had been struggling lately with the new baby and her own personal stuff… When I heard that one of the kids had died, I just felt sick to my stomach.’

Detectives spent the morning door knocking and interviewing nearby residents.
One neighbour, Luke Jackson, told the publication what happened was ‘awful’.
‘Just for the (police) forensics to have to go to a job and deal with that is just, you know, there is nothing worse,’ he said.
Others living on the street reportedly noticed disturbances at the address and noted police had attended the property on several occasions.
No charges have yet been laid and the investigation remains in its preliminary stages.
A police spokeswoman said members of the infants’ family are assisting detectives with their inquiries.
