The New South Wales government response to the state’s flood disaster has been slammed as too slow in coming, with key details remaining unclear.
Nationals MP Kevin Hogan, the member for Page, today said yesterday’s report and the response by NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet left affected residents in the dark.
The state government will consider options such as a buyback scheme and land swaps for flood-prone areas, Perrottet pledged.
“After yesterday’s announcement by the state government, our community is no clearer on the details for voluntary land swaps, buy backs and house raising,” Hogan said in a statement.
“This process should have started months ago. The criteria should have already been set. Applications should already be getting processed.”
“Queensland announced a buyback and house raising plan within weeks of the disaster.
“People are camping in their houses or in caravans, and they are still no clearer about the decisions they need to make.”
Perrottet said the government will accept all of the 28 key recommendations put forward in the state’s flood inquiry report that was released six months after the flooding disaster.
