The Mackay mother who was killed in a shooting has been remembered as a beautiful, bubbly person with a heart of gold.

Natalie Frahm, 34, was shot and killed in her own driveway on Wednesday night in front of two children.

Her friends, family, and community were in mourning today as police continued to investigate a motive behind the alleged murder.

“She was inspirational. She was fiercely strong and a very proud mum,” a friend of the woman told 9News.

The 34-year-old was studying to be a paramedic.

“She was a bubbly beautiful person, heart of gold,” her friend Nicolaas Van Der Zee said.

Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson condemned the shooting.

“This is just a random act of ultimate violence that has ended a young lady’s life, and have terrified a couple of young people who will have to live with this for the rest of their lives,” he said.

Police allege that Ryan Geoffrey Cole shot Frahm as she sat in her car with the 11-year-old and 12-year-old children, parked at a home on Robb Place in South Mackay on Wednesday afternoon.

Cole then allegedly shot 66-year-old Jimmy McGill, who police said was coming to Frahm’s aid after the two children ran for help.

The accused gunman left the scene in his silver Mitsubishi Triton before police arrived.

Police locked down several streets for hours.

Officers tracked Cole’s car to a service station on the Bruce Highway near Hilton Street, where he was arrested.

The 31-year-old appeared in court today via video link.

Police say the motive behind the alleged attack remains unclear.

Investigators are still attempting to find the revolver that was allegedly used.

“We’re working really hard to look into the background of Mr Cole, to find out what his movements were prior to the incident and afterwards,” a police spokesperson said.

Members of the community have set up a fundraiser for Frahm’s family.
