M3GAN co-producers James Wan and Jason Blum have set their sights on a new frontier for horror films: video games.
The horror aficionados are set to adapt the video game Dead by Daylight from Behaviour Interactive into a movie. The producers’ companies, Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Productions, will team up with the video game studio to bring the feature film to life.
Wan, who is founder and CEO of Atomic Monster, said in a statement from Behaviour Interactive, “In Dead by Daylight the Behaviour team has created a love letter to the world of horror, building an incredible environment teeming with atmosphere and terrifying villains — perfect for a scary cinematic adaptation. We’re big fans of the game at Atomic Monster, and are thrilled to be teaming up with Blumhouse to bring this frighteningly visceral world to the big screen.”
Described as “the world’s deadliest game of hide and seek,” Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer slasher where players can be both the killer or the victim. It features both original and licensed characters from classic horror franchises, such as Ghostface from Scream and Pinhead from Hellraiser.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Jason Blum and James Wan, two giants of the horror film industry, to further expand the Dead by Daylight universe,” Stephen Mulrooney, executive vice president of Behaviour Interactive, said. “Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are the ideal partners to craft Dead by Daylight’s killer entrance onto the big screen.”
Blumhouse Productions, which is already becoming a horror powerhouse, also recently announced that it is planning on breaking into the gaming industry on its own. Blumhouse Games plans to produce and publish their own immersive horror games, the company shared last month.
The Dead by Daylight film is still early in development. According to the press release, the companies have begun their search for a director and screenwriter.
