A father of two is fighting for his life in hospital after a sickening one-punch attack outside a popular Perth restaurant.

Glenn Cahill, 43, and his wife were waiting for a ride home outside Hillarys Beach Club, where they attended a Melbourne Cup event, when they were approached by a stranger.

It’s understood that Cahill offered 40-year-old Matthew Anthony Jennings a spot in their Uber but Jennings refused, and shortly after became violent.

Jennings is accused of punching Cahill in the face, knocking him unconscious and causing him to hit his head as he fell to the ground.

Jennings was detained by Hillarys Beach Club security until police arrived and arrested him.

He has since been charged with grievous bodily harm.

Cahill suffered serious head and facial injuries and was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital’s intensive care unit, where he remains in a critical condition.

It is understood his family is by his bedside.

“Glen is a devoted dad to two girls and a loving husband,” his family told 9News.

“He has an army of family and friends surrounding him with love and support at this tough time.”

As Cahill continues to recover, Jennings will remain in custody.
