An emergency situation that saw several streets locked down in North Queensland has ended with the arrest of a 32-year-old man.

Police said the Townsville man was wanted on outstanding assault and weapons offences.

Officers declared an exclusion zone in Townsville’s West End encompassing Francis Street, Montgomery Street, Gordon Street, Douglas Street and Chandler Street, around 10am, which was lifted about 3pm.

The man has been transported to hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

He is expected to be charged once he has been medically released.

Nobody else was injured during the incident.

The public was advised to avoid the area and traffic diversions were in place.

Those within the boundaries are urged to remain indoors until further notice.
