Residents in Queensland’s Darling Downs have been told to leave their homes immediately, with a fast-moving fire expected to impact the area.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services issued a fresh emergency bushfire warning to residents of The Pines, near Millmerran, south west of Toowoomba just before 1pm, urging residents to evacuate.

The fast-moving fire, burning near Pine Ridge Road, is expected to reach The Pines within the hour.

The emergency service warned that lives could be at risk and it would be soon too dangerous to drive.

QFES said properties between Rosella Avenue, Pine Ridge Road, Thyme Avenue, Scrubby Creek Boondanilla Road to the Gore Hwy were the most at risk.

Firefighting aircraft are currently helping ground crews at the scene.

Residents have been told to avoid driving on Pine Ridge Road and to check for road closures at the QLD Traffic website or call 13 19 40.

Meanwhile authorities have issued a warning for residents further north, near Cairns for a fire burning at Mona Mona.

QFES told residents to prepare to leave, warning conditions could worsen quickly.
