Lions could still get Aidan Hutchinson back this year in potential Super Bowl boost

The Lions could get a major boost, but there is one small catch.

Detroit might be able to get start edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson back in the postseason, but the Lions would have to get to the Super Bowl for that to occur, NFL insider Albert Breer reported on “Thursday Night Football.”

“One other guy the defense could be getting back is Aidan Hutchinson, who has already started running in a pool, walking without crutches,” Breer reported on air. “He’s been in the Lions building every day. The expectation is that if [the Lions] make it to the Super Bowl, then Hutchinson will be in uniform.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported similar news earlier in the day about Hutchinson’s rehab, with one person telling the NFL insider that they would be more surprised if he did not make it back for the potential Super Bowl appearance than if he did.

Hutchinson went down with a broken tibia and fibula during the Lions Week 6 loss to the Cowboys.

The Lions star defensive lineman had given an update on his rehab earlier this week in a social media post he had made for a young fan.

“And, actually, I’m learning how to walk just now, just like you,” Hutchinson said in the video. “I’m learning how to walk. I got my crutch back here, but I don’t need it.

“But I started walking on Monday, so I’m still learning how to walk. Getting my walking gate down, getting my heel touched, the toe off, all the good stuff.”

Hutchinson led the NFL with 7.5 sacks prior to his injury.

“So probably a long road, but I would never count him out, and I would say if anybody can make it back, it’d be him,” Dan Campbell said on Monday, per ESPN.
