Holden started as a saddlery in Adelaide in 1856 before graduating to horse-drawn carriages and coaches – and then car bodies – in the early 1900s.
In the 1920s it was purchased by US company General Motors (GM) and the first Holden rolled off the production line in 1948.
After increased competition and a decline in sales, the Adelaide factory closed in 2017 and GM announced it would stop making Holdens in February 2020.
It forced government departments to move away from using Holdens and required Australian motorsport championship Supercars to use Chevrolet Camaros as race cars instead.
NSW Police currently uses a variety of manufacturers in their fleet including the BMW 5 Series, Hyundai Santa Fe, Chrysler 300 SRT and Kia Sorento.
