A large fire has left a man injured and destroyed a home in Melbourne‘s west after breaking out in the early hours of the morning.

The large blaze took hold of a double-story wooden house at Albert Street, Williamstown around 4am while two people were inside.

A man, in his 20s, was taken to hospital with burns.

Police have said his injuries are non-life-threatening.

The fire fully engulfed the house and spread to a neighbouring shed.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze after 7am today.

Nearby properties were evacuated.
