Kyle Chalmers has sailed through to the men’s 100m freestyle final after finish in second place in the semi final at the World Championships.

The Aussie sensation issued a warning to world record holder David Popovici ahead of their race on Wednesday, with the 24-year-old insisting ‘no one is invincible’.

Chalmers backed up that message in the pool, beating the Romanian youngster, 18, by one tenth of a second in a closely-fought race.

Popovici has not been in strong form at the championships, displaying an alarming decline during the 200m final and Chalmers admitted he’d taken notice of that performance.

‘I’d be lying if I said I didn’t [take notice of the 200m race].’

‘Obviously, (Popovici) faded a little bit, but I think he’s young and he’ll learn from that and be better for it in the 100,’ he said.

‘No one is invincible.

‘I have been in the sport a long time and have learnt that through my years, that is a lesson he is probably starting to learn now.’

Chalmers hit the wall 0.05 seconds slower than British rival Matthew Richardson, setting up a blockbuster final in Fukuoka.
