She had nerves of steel.

King Charles III’s nickname for his daughter-in-law Meghan Markle proves how much respect he once had for her.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl reveals in her book “The New Royals” that the British monarch called the Duchess of Sussex “Tungsten,” which is a hard steel-gray metal of the third transition series that has the highest melting point of all metallic elements.

“Charles reportedly nicknamed his future daughter-in-law ‘Tungsten’ because of her toughness and resilience,” Nicholl writes (via “Entertainment Tonight”).

Nicholl explains that Markle’s moniker was apparently born when the “Suits” alum showed resilience during her and Prince Harry’s 2018 appearance with Prince William and Kate Middleton at the Royal Foundation Forum.

“It was, according to one aide, the moment William and Kate, who was heavily pregnant, realized they needed to up their game,” Nicholl claimed. “The Cambridges [now named the Prince and Princess of Wales] had already signaled their intention to be more than ‘ornamental royals’ and had, along with Harry, made a huge success of their mental health campaign Heads Together.”

She continued, “But Meghan was the breakout star of the foursome. She was polished, passionate, and funny, using all her TV-honed skills to present her case. That was a wake-up moment for William and Kate when they realized that Meghan was very impressive, very confident, and very capable, according to a source.”

While Charles may have used the term of endearment four years ago, it’s unclear if he still calls Markle “Tungsten” after she and Prince Harry resigned from their royal duties in 2020 and subsequently moved to California where they reside with their two kids, Archie, 3, and Liliebet, 1.

And tensions seemed to remain high following the death of Queen Elizabeth II when Markle reportedly requested to meet with Charles and clear the air in September.

Both Harry and Markle attended the Queen’s funeral alongside Prince William and King Charles, though they were seemingly snubbed when they were seated in the second row during the ceremony.

And Page Six reported that the Sussexes also dined with Charles, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and other Senior members of the British royal family after receiving the Queen’s coffin at Buckingham palace ahead of her funeral.

Despite appearances, it seems Markle and Harry have yet to make peace with the new King of the UK and Commonwealth as they swiftly returned back to the States after the official mourning period of the late monarch came to an end.

Estranged brothers Harry and William also reportedly did not bury the hatchet during the somber reunion.

The Queen died at the age of 96 on Sept. 8 after reigning on the throne for 70 years. Her cause of death was revealed to be from “old age.”
