The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby will conduct the ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London.
The palace said the Saturday coronation would also crown the Queen Consort, Camilla.
“The coronation will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry,” the palace said, in a statement released this morning.
The reigning archbishop has traditionally, with a few exceptions, overseen the tradition-heavy coronation at the abbey for more than 900 years.
The first monarch crowned there was William the Conqueror, and Charles will be the 40th.
At the climax of the Anglican ceremony, Welby will place the solid gold St Edward’s Crown, dating from 1661, on the monarch’s head.

The ceremony is expected to hue closely to tradition while including a few nods to more modern times.
Charles is expected to sign a proclamation declaring the coronation date at a Privy Council meeting later this year.
The long wait between accession to the throne and coronation is not unusual.
Queen Elizabeth II succeeded to the throne in February 1952, but was not crowned until June 1953.
