Keith Hernandez mixes up ex-Mets teammate Howard Johnson and his cat Hadji on air

Keith Hernandez had a hilarious confusion while in the SNY booth for the Mets game on Sunday.

When attempting to reference his former 1986 Mets teammate Howard Johnson (HoJo) during the game, Hernandez instead said his 21.5-year-old cat, Hadji.

“Hadji. Oh, not Hadji, HoJo,” he said, as Ron Darling and Gary Cohen burst into laughter over the slip up.

Some fans commented on SNY’s X post about the mistake, mostly enjoying that Hernandez’s beloved cat was featured in the broadcast.

“Old man Hadji always on Keiths mind. Love it,” one user posted with a cat crying laughing emoj.

Hernandez and Johnson overlapped in Queens from 1985-89 and helped the Mets win their second World Series championship in 1986.

Johnson spent the majority of his 14-year career with the Mets, where he earned two All-Star and two Silver Slugger awards across nine years, holding a .251 batting average and .801 OPS across 1,154 games.

He later coached for the Mariners and Mets in roles such as first base coach and hitting coach.

Hernandez spent 10 years in St. Louis before coming to New York, where he earned the remaining of his All Star, Gold Glove, and Silver Slugger nods in his 17-year career.

The Mets are third in the National League East, sitting 7-8, and finished up the series against the Royals with a win Sunday.

Harrison Bader’s infield single drove in the winning run for the Mets in the eighth inning of their 2-0 victory.
