A woman was mauled by a shark while swimming at a beach.

Emergency services were called to the scene following the attack at Jurien Bay Beach, in Western Australia, at 11.50am on Monday.

The woman is understood to have been bitten on her leg with the extent of her injuries unknown.

A St John WA spokeswoman said an RAC Rescue Helicopter is on standy.
