The Democratic leader said he was “planning on running” but not ready to announce it yet.

The revelation came during a chat with NBC’s Today Show on Monday morning (late Monday night AEST).

The president and Dr Jill Biden were talking about the annual Easter egg roll at the White House when weather anchor Al Roker asked him about his future plans.

“I plan on at least three or four more Easter egg rolls,” the president said.

“Maybe five, maybe six, what the hell.”

Pressed a little bit further, Biden appeared to confirm his 2024 ambitions.

“I’m planning on running, Al, but we’re not prepared to announce it yet,” he said.

Inauguration Day: A ceremony like no other

In 2020, the then-78-year-old became the oldest man to be elected US president. He will turn 82 a few weeks after the 2024 election.

Donald Trump, who is leading polls for the Republican nomination even after earlier this month becoming the first former president to be charged with a crime, is 76 and will be 78 by the time the election is held.
