His wife Jane shared an update and photo of the beloved rocker on his Instagram account overnight.
The Cold Chisel frontman, 67, was hospitalised at the end of last month with pneumonia.
“Good progress today in (the) ICU. Some massive tubes have come out and first physio visit,” the post said.
“Clearing lungs and deep breathing, we know he’s good at that!
“Our family thanks each and everyone for your well wishes, every single one counts so please keep them coming.”

The 66-year-old revealed on Wednesday morning that he needed to undergo open heart surgery to replace the infected valve.
“Unfortunately I got some bad news yesterday….despite everyone’s best efforts the bacterial infection I’ve been battling over the last fortnight has apparently now spread to my heart,” Barnes wrote.
“It’s infected an otherwise healthy valve that was replaced some years ago due to a congenital defect, so l’ll be getting open heart surgery over the next few hours to clear out this infection and put in a clean valve.”
Barnes is expected to take at least the next four months off, cancelling his performance at the Rock the Boat 2023 cruise festival.
He has thanked his wife Jane and the doctors and nurses who had cared for him as well as his many fans who had sent get-well messages.
