A Gold Coast jeweller is lucky to be alive after being hit with a hammer during a home invasion then held at gunpoint until he opened his safe.
The two masked thieves then fled with a treasure trove of gold, diamonds and jewels.
One was armed with a shotgun and the other a hammer as they targeted Kevin Goonan in the daylight attack at his Paradise Point home on Sunday afternoon.
They entered through the front yard and under the roller door.
“They were right on top of me straight away,” Goonan said.
“I wrestled the guy with the shotgun which is pretty silly, and then the other guy has clocked me over the head with a hammer.

“Someone had informed them of what’s here and what I’ve got.”
They marched Goonan to his safe inside at gunpoint, asking for watches and gold bullion.
They bagged up gold and gemstones including sapphires, pink diamonds and rubies before heading to the getaway car.
Police said the robbery was planned.
“It’s premeditated, it’s planned and the actual assault upon the person,” Superintendent Geoff Sheldon said.
The pair are still on the run and police are appealing for witnesses.
