Jets defense gets big lift with Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed cleared for Giants game

The Jets’ defense is getting major reinforcements back Sunday.

Cornerbacks Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed have cleared the concussion protocol and will face the Giants on Sunday, coach Robert Saleh said Friday.

Reed missed the past two games and Gardner was held out of the last contest against the Eagles, but both will be back now, as Gang Green looks to win their third straight contest.

Bryce Hall started the last two games and performed well in a pinch.

It had been trending in this direction all week that the pair would return for this rivalry game, with Reed and Gardner both practicing fully Wednesday and Thursday.

The injury news, however, wasn’t all positive.

Saleh ruled out rookie offensive lineman Joe Tippmann (quad) and said special teams standout Irv Charles (shoulder) is doubtful.

Wes Schweitzer is expected to start at right guard with Tippmann out.

Offensive tackle Billy Turner has been working out at guard, and will serve as a backup at the position.
