JetBlue passenger recounts ‘scary’ JFK plane tipping incident

A passenger aboard the JetBlue flight that tipped backward upon landing at JFK Airport took to TikTok to recount her “scary” ordeal — and how they were ordered to help “strategically rebalance the plane.”

Sinead Bovell shared footage of the chaos that ensued late Sunday after Flight 662 from Bridgetown, Barbados touched down at the Queens airport.

“When just over half the plane exited, or maybe a little bit more, the plane abruptly tipped backwards so quickly and intensely that the tail of the plane hit the pavement of the jet bridge and part of the plane door broke,” said Bovell, who is the founder and CEO of WAYE (Weekly Advice for the Young Entrepreneur).

Bovell said she overheard chatter on the flight crew’s walkie talkies indicating the nose of the plane was pointed ten feet in the air.

She shared footage that captured a member of crew directing concerned passengers: “So, um, very slowly, little by little, move towards the middle of the airplane because apparently, everything is like, it tipped up.”

The entrepreneur said she was then moved to the front of the aircraft as passengers were instructed to “strategically rebalance the plane.”

“It was also scary because it tipped back down. They tried to start fixing this but also told us to watch out and move back,” Bovell explained to her followers.

“We all just panicked and had enough and said ‘Wait till we get off,’ and we had to strategically exit the plane two rows at a time [then] take a break.”

JetBlue officials said Monday that no one was injured and explained that the tipping occurred “due to a shift in weight and balance during deplaning.”

The airline did not immediately return a request for additional comment Tuesday about an update on its investigation into the incident, or how the shifting of weight on board differed from any other deplaning.

“Thank goodness nobody was actually exiting the plane at the time it tilted backwards,” Bovell said.
