On Tuesday morning’s edition of Today With Jenna & Friends “The Internet’s Divided” segment, Jenna Bush Hager and guest host Tyra Banks were joined by Today Digital editorial director Arianna Davis to talk about the latest debates on the world wide web.
After giving their takes on prioritizing marriage over kids and who should pay wedding costs, the conversation took an almost Sweet Home Alabama-style turn when discussing fake proposals.
The three women watched a clip of an already-married couple staging a public proposal in a restaurant so they could score some free sweets before weighing in on the issue.
Banks admitted to once going along with pretending that it was her mother’s birthday every day throughout a two-week vacation in Dubai so they could get freebies. This prompted Bush Hager to share her own unique anecdote.
“I’ve done it. Well, my cousin pretended to propose to me… Which sounds nasty,” the host admitted before an old picture of her and her cousin appeared onscreen. “Look, that’s us! We look like a couple, don’t we?”
Banks immediately responded, “No! He looks like your cousin!” while Davis just diplomatically answered, “I would have believed it,” prompting all of the ladies to laugh.
Bush Hager went on to explain, “We did it kind of for laughs and for dessert,” which they ultimately did score in the end. Davis then revealed the results of their audience poll, which had 91% of viewers saying that it’s not okay to fake a celebration to get something free.
“Oh!” Bush Hager laughed before countering, “By the way, everybody’s faked a birthday, if we’re honest.” Davis agreed, to a point, saying, “Yes. But a proposal is a different story.”
Today with Jenna & Friends airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
