Jason Demetriou has been sacked by South Sydney Rabbitohs following the club’s terrible start to the 2024 season.
Demetriou’s position had been under huge threat after he oversaw a torrid start to the new campaign, with the club winning just one of their eight matches thus far to leave them rock bottom of the ladder.
As a result, the club’s hierarchy held a board meeting on Tuesday night ending with the decision to terminate the coach’s contract, effective immediately.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, assistant coach Ben Hornby is expected to take charge of first team duties for the remainder of the season as the club begins its search for Demetriou’s successor.
Wayne Bennett is the leading contender to take the helm, while Craig Bellamy and club hero Sam Burgess have also been linked with the top job.
